Olwen Tarrant (b. 1927)

 

Painter, sculptor, printmaker and teacher, born in Newport, Gwent. She studied at Sir John Cass School of Art, teachers including David Graham and James Horton.

 

She is a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI), and has been on its council for many years, culminating recently in her election as President.

 

She plays a prominent role in the ROI’s annual exhibition, & in 1897 she won the Cornellissen Prize. She has also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, Medici Gallery, Albemarle Gallery and Fosse

Gallery, Stow-on-the-Wold, to name but a few.

 

Her painting  has a distinctive style and use of colour which makes all her work – figure paintings, landscapes, still lifes – instantly recognisable. Now divides her time between painting in her English studio and in Puerto Pollensa in the North of Majorca, where she also has a studio.
