Herbert Victor Tempest (b. 1913)

 

Painter (in oil and tempera) and teacher, born in Swaffham, Norfolk. He studied at Woolwich Polytechnic School of Art, 1927-32 with Herbert Buckley, then the Royal College of Art, 1932-36 under William Rothenstein, gaining associate status in 1935.

 

He showed at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club, Royal Society of British Artists, and in Doncaster, Gateshead and Sunderland.

 

His work is in the collections of Royal Academy, City of Leicester Art Gallery, Wolverhampton Municipal Art Gallery, and in New York and Tokyo.

 

He lived at Plumstead in South-East London, and later at Keston in Kent.
