Frederick George Rees Cuming, RA (b. 1930)

 

Painter born in London of English, Scottish & Irish descent. Trained at Sidcup School of Art, 1945-49, and after National Service attended Royal College of Art, 1951-55,  winning an Abbey Scholarship to Italy.

 

A subtle colourist who specialises in landscapes in Britain and on the Continent, he was elected a fellow of the Royal Academy in 1974.

 

Has taken part in many mixed exhibitions and has had a string of one-man shows, including Folkestone, Guildford and New York and, since the early 1980’s, several at the New Grafton Gallery. Exhibits every year at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

 

He was a joint winner of the Grand Prix Contemporary Art Award, Monte Carlo 1977, and the Sir Brinsley Ford Award, NEAC, 1986
